Frequently Asked Questions

Is Uganda safe to visit?

Yes! Just be smart and stick with us. Uganda is generally a peaceful country without civil conflicts or unrest. Major episodes of violence are rare.

How long will the trip be?

Our trips will be approximately 14 days long. Flights to and from Uganda can range from approximately 20-35 hours which means we'll have approximately 12 days on ground.

What will we be doing on the trip?

We will support our ministry's medical outreaches, Christian retreats, and child sponsorship program. We may also engage in construction, community outreach, evangelism, and visit homes, schools, hospitals, and prisons. We'll also ensure time for relaxing and enjoying the beauty of Uganda!

What will the weather be like?

Uganda's tropical temperatures average 68-77°F year-round with lows of 50-60°F to highs of 80-90°F, depending on the time of year. Uganda has two seasons – rainy and cool (Mar-May, Sept-Nov) and dry and hot (Dec-Feb, June-July).

Where will we be staying?

We will do our best to provide comfortable secure accommodations with electricity, hot running water, and flushing toilets. Be aware that A/C is rare and electricity, running water, and flushing toilets may not always be available, so be ready to be flexible!

What food will we be eating?

Traditional Ugandan food typically consists of a starch (rice, potatoes, matooke, corn meal, cassava, etc.) and a soup (chicken, beef, goat, fish, beans, peas, etc.). Other common dishes include chapati (flat bread), fried chicken or fish and chips (fries), Indian dishes, and fresh fruits.

What illnesses are common?

Malaria is common so be sure to sleep with a mosquito net which will be provided by the hotel. You may also want to bring an antimalarial medication as recommended by your doctor. Typhoid is also common so make sure to only use bottled water provided by us for drinking and brushing your teeth. It's also a good idea to avoid street food to avoid food poisoning.

Will I need vaccines to travel?

Yes. A yellow fever vaccine card is required to enter Uganda. Additional recommended vaccines include Tdap, polio, hepatitis A, hepatitis B, meningitis, measles, cholera, typhoid, and rabies. Some of these vaccines may not be covered by insurance and may need to be obtained from a travel medicine clinic. Consult your doctor for further guidance. Vaccines are not included in trip costs.
